LF faces learning difficulties and disabilities that have historically made it challenging for her to secure employment and engage independently in her community. Seeking support, she enrolled in the Progression into Employment Programme at Project Colt. Through the structured guidance, hands-on experience, and nurturing environment of the programme, LF began to develop both professionally and personally.
Upon completing the course, LF took on a volunteer role at Rusty’s Coffee Club, where she now contributes three days a week. This opportunity has been transformative. Her confidence has grown significantly, so much so that she now travels independently by bus to and from Project Colt, a milestone that reflects her increasing self-reliance.
Beyond her volunteer role, LF has made noticeable improvements in her behaviours and interactions outside of Project Colt. She has formed new friendships within the Project Colt community, where she receives not only practical support for her additional needs but also a strong sense of belonging.
Her journey has had a ripple effect. LF’s colleagues at Rusty’s, who assist her in her role, feel empowered and uplifted by the opportunity to support her. This mutual sense of purpose strengthens the community spirit and highlights the powerful impact of inclusive employment opportunities.
LF’s story is a testament to the importance of tailored support, inclusive environments, and the potential that can be unlocked when individuals are given the chance to thrive.
