Serving the Community
Our History
Project Colt is a charity with over 20 years experience supporting local people through recovery.
2003 - Project Colt
Mary Spencer, having battled her own demons of addiction and fought her way through recovery, decided she wanted to give back. With her personal experience as her driving force, she founded Project Colt. Initially, it started humbly in the basement of a church in Halifax, where Mary began her mission to support those facing similar struggles.
2005 - Colt Enterprise
With the groundwork laid, Mary and her growing team established a social enterprise. The idea was simple yet powerful: collect donated items such as furniture, beds, white goods, and clothing, and sell them to raise funds for the project. This not only provided a steady stream of income but also created jobs and training opportunities for those in recovery.
2009 - Bridgefield Mills
Project Colt outgrew the church basement and moved to a spacious mill in Elland. This new location quickly transformed into a bustling community hub, filled with small businesses and large sales rooms brimming with donated goods. It was more than just a place to shop; it became a symbol of hope and transformation.
TODAY
Project Colt thrives thanks to the collective efforts of a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Their unwavering commitment has turned Mary’s initial vision into a reality, fostering an inclusive community where everyone is welcome.
